    I was looking for a good place with knowledge in whiskey and cocktails and this is an oasis in the UES. Bar tenders are knowledgeable about the whisky, the cocktails are refreshing and good quality.Price is hight but it worthy. Good atmosphere to relax.The bar is just tight with the seat but overall best place to enjoy whiskey and cocktail. I will be back.Ps: music is cool

    I am not a whiskey drinker myself, but I came to Caledonia to arrange a curated tasting for my parents as a gift. I was put in contact with the owner, Alan, who in spite of welcoming a child into this world (congrats to the happy couple) was very accommodating and helped put everything together. I got to name my price range and we settled on a date and time. My folks got to sample 5 whiskies new to them, with a complimentary cocktail to start and a second pour of their favorite to cap off the evening.The guide, Kevin, was extremely friendly and patient. As I bore witness, being the designated driver, my parents got to have their fill of increasingly tipsy conversating and drinking both. Kevin prepared something of a small presentation about each whiskey, giving some interesting background facts as well as his own professional opinions. I also spoke to Rachael via text beforehand, to whom I sent an encyclopedia-length list of all the whiskies I knew my parents have tried, liked, and keep at home, to better offer them a selection they wouldnt have had before. With success! Everything was new to them, and not only that, but they both found a whiskey they liked enough to want to introduce into their daily selection to sip at home. They also both raved about the place afterward and expressed an eagerness to find a reason to come back.And this last bit is a personal thing, but my parents (especially my mom) both have pretty thick accents, and when Im out with them I often notice people will be impatient or outright rude to them because of it. Im pretty sensitive to it, as I hate to think that they are being given disrespect or worse service for the crime of speaking two languages. And naturally, being a bit drunk doesnt improve the communication situation. However, Kevin remained positive, attentive, and kind throughout the entire tasting. Not a single I dont understand your english or looking to me to translate. It might not be a big deal to some, but I appreciate that they were treated with courtesy from beginning to end.Overall, a 10/5 experience, and I would recommend it to anyone who is interested in whiskey, expert or novice. Theyll have something for experienced drinkers and newbies alike, and the kind of quality service that warrants a thousand-word review.

    I live close to this place and its quickly turning into my favorite spot. The bartender is friendly and it has a great vibe. Perfect spot for a date as well. Great cocktail and whisk(e)y selection.I love their Old Fashions.

    This place is a nice little walk from the Met. It’s a local hangout - cool and dark. We had a great bartender and despite their incredible whisky selection, couldn’t resist trying their cocktails. Feels like a secret find!

    What a great bar! Met a friend after work for a drink. It was the perfect atmosphere, quiet and low key. The bar has a really great selection of whiskeys/whiskys. The bartender was super knowledgeable and really knew her stuff (which was great for a novice like me). For those in the neighborhood, its such a fantastic place to grab a drink and learn more about whiskey/whisky.

    Was looking through Yelp for some scotch bars uptown and Caledonia came up. Being a lover of scotch, I had to give it a try. The scotch selection is extensive. I like that they group all of the bottles by distillery location behind the bar. There were tons of options. Its hard to find bars that have such a large scotch list. I was highly impressed.As for the actual bar itself, it is dark and narrow with a few couches in the back. There is not much room to stand, if everyone is sitting at the bar. Luckily I was able to secure one of the couches for a couple hours.The drinks options are excellent and the bar is decent. I will definitely be back whenever I am in the area.

    Insane amount of whiskies and scotches. Small, clean bar with good service. Relatively popular spot with lots of space to sit. Small menu from a kitchen that is open late. We had the chicken and mushroom pie and it was great and worth the 20 min wait. Their poison cocktail was awesome as well. Lots of selection on tap and the prices are not too heavy.

    This has become one of my favorite bars to go to in the neighborhood. The bartenders seem to know their craft. Every time I’ve been here, they’ve made good drinks. The vibe is chill. You can have a drink and hear your friends talk while you’re sitting at the bar. It’s a nice that you can come here and drink whatever you prefer. They have beers here and an array of scotch and whiskey available. Good service and decent price for drinks.

    250 different types of Scotch, lovingly displayed by region, and bartenders that truly love every bottle enough to know the story behind them. Ive never been disappointed by a visit to Caledonia. If the bar isnt packed, ask the bartender to curate a flight for you.

    Amazing little spot! Went with a couple of girlfriends late yesterday afternoon. Great ambiance from 4-7ish on a Saturday if you like a quieter vibe. Dave makes a killer cocktail, so have a Penicillin or tell him what you like and hell find the perfect combo for ya 😀 bring your besties, grab your nuts and olives, order some cocktails and a Confectionist Flight, and chill for a few hours. Lovely experience all around, definitely coming back- thanks Dave!!!

    Into Scotch Whiskey? These folks have a couple hundred different whiskeys, and friendly staff (and guests) to help you discover something new. They also have about six taps, some of which provide Scottish ales such as Belhaven. The place is small - very narrow - and really just bar, but I found it a comfortable place to sit, read, chat, and discover a couple of Whiskeys I havent tried before. In fact, I could be going back for a very long time...

    Best place for a scotch in NYC. Bartender is pretty helpful when you’re trying to decide from their 250 whiskies. Their COVID safety measures are pretty good. Would recommend this place if you are in the UES.

    4 stars only because it is a very confined space. The drinks are fantastic and the bar staff are always exceptional.. Expect to spend some money here but it is worth it if you are appreciative of quality scotch.

    I dont understand the bad reviews. The food was very good and authentic. The service was prompt and friendly although I was there for dinner a bit late and they were not crowded. The ambiance is classic if a bit over the top. The crowd was light v Mari Vanna where it is much more lively. The chicken Kiev here is the best in Manhattan, not Mari vannas strong suit (dry) and taras bulba was just dry as a brick. To improve one has to go to Brighton beach or Ukraine or Russia. The blitzes for dessert were good not great but the tea was fantastic. Dessert was better at Mari vanna. But unlike Mari vanna you dont feel like a sardine crammed 6 at a table for 4.

    This bar has some of the best customer service Ive ever seen. We first went on New Years for 2016-2017 New Years and drinks were fine but it was way too busy and popular that night to sit, let alone stand and obviously the bartenders were busy so while we enjoyed the drinks, we did not get the full experience.While searching for a bar to visit last night, my boyfriend suggested we try Caledonia Bar again when as he remembered the wonderful selection. This time was even better.I tell you, go when GRAHAMis bartending on the weekends and Mondays. As previous reviews already mentioned, THIS MAN KNOWS HIS STUFF! He took the time out to explain things like what the peat process is, and was able to recommend a cocktail for me. I learned so much about liquor yesterday and Graham was not bothered at all to educate us thoroughly in their origins etc. On top of that he is handsome, funny, witting, and charming. He had the whole bar laughing and literally in good spirits. He goes above and beyond.This bar is the best whiskey and scotch bar in Manhattan Ive experienced yet.My boyfriend who is a bartender as well did not complain ONCE about any of the drinks and tried a new beer that was suggested to him as well. He tried the small cheese plate which consisted of French Brie, Gruyere, and a White/Yellow Cheddar Mix. He had bread with honey as well. He finished the whole thing himself as I am vegan.Thank you for such a wonderful experience. They have found loyal customers. We will DEFINITELY be returning.☺️5/5

    Tops proper scottish pub. If you like sazeracs you have to try theirs, very well rounded and herby (wonder what kind of absinthe it is?). Best Ive ever had. Their Boulevardier is also phenomenal, it has a hint of ginger which is a great touch. Their sign brags of mediocre service, I have to say thats a lie, incredible service, bartender was great.     Awesome selection of whiskies and tap beers. Whiskies in all ranges of price. Small discreet place with a kitchen that serves food late. I had a chicken and mushroom pie that was great and I highly recommend. Seating can be a challenge due to the size of the place. Great place to chat with friends. I highly recommend this place. One of my go to spots in the UES on 2nd avenue.

    Great place for a scotch lover. Space can come at a bit of a premium, so I would recommend this as a place for a weeknight out as opposed to a weekend night on the town. There are few places I would rather be than sitting in one of the leather couches in the back, scotch in hand.
