The food was good for what we ordered but very limited selection overall. Didnt understand why you have to pay for bread! Alcoholic drinks were well done. The ambiance and the music Playlist were nice. The price is quite expensive but it is New York. Will I go back? Maybe if theres no other restaurant available because of the food choices. -
Review 2 (2024-12-09 - Rating: 5)
The food was excellent although surprisingly needed a little more salt on the polenta and gnocchi. The beef short ribs were so rich and melted in my mouth. Definitely worth a visit but allow 2-3 hours for dinner service. It took a while. -

I love this restaurant! I shared the Parker house rolls, braised beef short rib, french fries, and gnocchi Mac and cheese with my mother and they were all absolutely DELICIOUS. The Parker house rolls are so soft and buttery, the short rib was so flavorful and absolutely melts in your mouth and falls apart. The French fries were perfection and the Mac and cheese was so flavorful and creamy. The service was great and food came out in a timely manner. Really nice interior and ambiance. -

I visited the other location half a dozen years ago and had a bad experience but decided to give Alex’s place another shot. I came here solo and was quickly seated. Nobody looked twice at my tshirt and jeans which I’d been worried about.Service was quick. I ordered a Ghost Margarita, a “snack” of fois gras and an appetizer size of grilled octopus. The fois gras came out first and was quite delightful. Once I finished that dish, the octopus quickly followed. The dishes were well timed. The octopus was perfectly charred without a hint of rubbery texture which it can often get. Both dishes were well worth getting. The server was just the right amount of attentive and almost even convinced me to take a look at the desserts without being pushy.I’m definitely glad I gave Butter another try. -

I was delighted to dine here before a show last week. The restaurant ambiance is second to none. Very cozy and high end. The food was spectacular- the menu options were fantastic so it was hard to choose. The service, also amazing. Constant refills on the water, cleaned the table between courses, refolded our napkins when we used the restroom. Highly, highly recommend making a reservation and coming here! -

Food was very good, bit not 4 or 5 star. To be fare this was a private event. The bar is outstanding and the service is great. I would not go and eat here unless it was a business function. Too many other great options that have a stronger food rating ( In my opinion) -
Review 7 (2023-12-13 - Rating: 5)
We loved Butter!!! The veal bacon was truly unique and amazing. Similar to pork belly but more meaty and well seasoned. We’re big fans of Alex Guarnaschelli & our waitress says she still comes by a couple times per week to ensure quality. If I had to suggest any improvements it would be to provide more butter with the rolls (the restaurant is called Butter after all) and don’t hide the beautiful beef Wellington with garnishes in the middle. Overall we had a fantastic experience & would come back in a heartbeat! -
Review 8 (2024-01-04 - Rating: 4)
The sauces they created for the food tasted very unique. The flavor profile for each and every dish was multi-layered and plenty acidic in a nice and balanced way. It’s Alex, after all.But I can see some people don’t appreciate the not so familiar taste, myself included. Sometimes I enjoyed the uniqueness, sometimes the flavor was a bit too beyond what I traditionally associated the protein with. And it felt like so much emphasis on flavor of the sauce at times, the protein itself became secondary and was not as good as I expected from a restaurant at its level. The service was also a bit disorganized too. We got the food with no plates to put the food on. Then we asked for them and were ignored several times before finally getting them.Overall, I’m happy I tried. Not sure I’d go back though. -

Simply AMAZING! if youre a food network buff or in love with great American food, this is a must have. Reservations are recommended and available 30 days ahead of time. Cocktails are great. My double chop was fantastic. All the meats were delicious. Go there. Enjoy. -

This was one of the best meals I’ve had. We went with some family members so 4 adults and 1 kid. They were super great about the kid and made us feel very comfortable. The food was incredible. I had the short ribs and they were phenomenal. I have been thinking of them ever since. The staff was great and very nice to me because I was so excited.Good atmosphere.Overall a lovely time. -
Review 11 (2022-11-06 - Rating: 5)
I took my wife here for our 10 wedding anniversary. The service was good, our waiter was very friendly. The drinks were okay. The food however, was phenomenal, the rolls were pillowy soft and the butter was soft and delicious, the gnocchi mac and cheese was wonderful and creamy. The smoked pork chop was cooked to perfection...a bit too much smoke but it was great. My wife had the short ribs and polenta and that was out of this world. -
Review 12 (2023-06-25 - Rating: 5)
Service was impeccable from start to finish. Our server was very friendly and outgoing, and she made great recommendations from the menu. Strong wine list. The food was to die for. Both of us found ourselves eating slower than normal to savor the meal more. Started with the rolls. Moved on to the Cavatappi with spicy lamb meatballs followed with the braised short rib with creamy polenta and balsamic reduction. We finished with the Amaretto dessert and a fantastic espresso martini. Highly recommend! -
Review 13 (2018-01-28 - Rating: 5)
The food here is truly spectacular. Everything from the bread to the dessert was delicious. The Mac and cheese gnocchi, pot roast, and pineapple upside down cake were particularly memorable bites. The atmosphere is chic and fun. The staff were very friendly. The price is a bit steep but its absolutely worth it. -
Review 14 (2024-06-15 - Rating: 4)
Food - Excellent. Service - Excellent. Atmosphere - Poor - It was so cold we couldn’t enjoy our meal. We asked our server who kinda explained it was because the kitchen gets so hot. While I’m not an HVAC engineer, a high end restaurant could/should have two HVAC systems; one for dining room (people who pay you money) and one for the kitchen (people who make you money) so “EVERYONE” is happy. Making your patrons freeze so your chefs don’t bake is not a recipe for success. Otherwise a great placewith great food and great service; just wear a coat in June so you don’t freeze (we did see a couple get reseated as it was too damn cold…) -
Review 15 (2024-12-03 - Rating: 5)
Our favorite restaurant in NYC. The service was great. The servers are very attentive. When your drinks are low they make sure you have more water or ask if you want another drink. The food is amazing and always so good. -
Review 16 (2023-12-05 - Rating: 5)
This is my favorite restaurant in all Manhattan. This is Chef Alex Guarnaschelli’s restaurant, my favorite Food Network chef. Every drink and every plate is a gastronomical hyper experience. Even the bread with the house butters is amazing! The place reputation is no secret, reservations are recommended. -
Review 17 (2022-04-03 - Rating: 5)
Finally made it here for dinner and it was absolutely delicious. Their menu ranges from comfort food dishes executed perfectly to harder to find dishes with amazing tastes. Tried the rolls, the crudo flatbread, the beef Wellington, crushed potatoes, and the raspberry beignets. All were seriously delicious! Well balanced flavors and textures for amazing bites. Their cocktail menu was also excellent, I tried the Gold Bar and their bitter smoky drink (can’t remember the name!) and they were very well balanced.Service was excellent and the food was paced perfectly. Also felt like the dishes were fairly priced for a Manhattan restaurant run by a celebrity chef. You can tell there’s a lot of care that goes into every plate. As far as ambience, I felt really welcomed at the restaurant. I wasn’t dressed particularly fancy but I was still treated with respect which was really nice. I enjoyed this meal! -
Review 18 (2023-07-09 - Rating: 5)
One of the best meals of my life. Incredible service, great ingredients, prepared perfectly. Its not overly fancy but its better than some Michelin starred restaurants with its simplicity. There are few restaurants I would recommend over this one. -
Review 19 (2023-03-08 - Rating: 5)
The food was as amazing as youd expect of a restaurant owned by an Iron Chef! The dress code is flexible, we were dressed smart casual and felt comfortable, we definitely saw at least a few in sweatshirts and a few dressed to the nines, everyone seemed comfortable! The ambiance is intimate and warm. Service was great, and the food was spectacular! The branzino was delicious, and the gnocchi mac and cheese was the highlight of the evening. The cocktails are also well thought out flavor adventures, I would recommend partaking in them too. -
Review 20 (2023-10-28 - Rating: 4)
I am a huge fan of Alex and it has been a dream to eat at her restaurant. Finally made it but unfortunately we had some misses. I had the pork chop and the waiter guided me thru medium cook with pink in middle however mine was all white and dry... I mustered thru half of it before my jaw was done. The Halibut special and beef wellington were great. We also had the Maine lobster pasta appetizer. The beignets were a great ending, however the pecans on the Texas cake were burnt and left that flavor. I still am a fan of Alex as always but was sad the food wasnt all on point for the price you pay..... oh and the rolls with butter are a great start as well. Strong start but weaker finish for the night. -
Review 21 (2023-05-11 - Rating: 5)
Wonderful! The food was exceptional. Went for a colleague dinner while in NY on business. My only complaint is the food took so long that we had almost finished our bottle of wine by the time it came. The manager noticed us waiting and immediately went to the kitchen, the food was out minutes later. To their credit, the restaurant was full and I believe our waiter was overwhelmed or he would have checked on it. Either way, it was worth the wait. The food was delicious! I had the pork chop with red beans and couldn’t finish it all. Try the gnocchi mac! It’s so good! -
Review 22 (2024-02-26 - Rating: 4)
My family and I went to Butter over the weekend to celebrate my father’s birthday which is February 29th. It was a very special occasion since he only gets a real birthday every 4 years and Butter has been on his bucket list (he’s also a chef and went to CIA, so he was VERY excited). The food was excellent, I got the branzino and the rest of my party had the steak and short ribs. The parkerhouse tolls and the infused butters - incredible! Highly recommend.Where Butter fell short was the service. Our server would stop by for less than 10 seconds at a time, always in a huge hurry. Understanding it was a Saturday evening, we still felt like an afterthought and we were bothering him. We had to flag him down a few times as well. Aside from that, I had really thought Butter’s staff would have done something special for it being my Father’s birthday. I was shocked when we received a measly mini cupcake that I could only compare to something you’d purchase at a Stop and Shop bakery after it was sitting in the plastic container for days. There was no excitement or engaging conversation from any of the staff. The hostess’ also were less than inviting and friendly - do not think they smiled once and did not offer to take our coats when the closet was right behind them. All in all, the food was great, but I truly hope Butter could adapt service like Capital Grille where they truly go above and beyond for their guests (they put confetti on tables and have a card where some of the staff even signs it! Very impressive) -
Review 23 (2024-12-20 - Rating: 5)
We hosted our company holiday party at Butter and everything was truly first class. Their team made everything incredibly easy and was a pleasure to work with from planning to execution. Everyone raved about the food, particularly the cavatappi pasta, pesto rigatoni, beef short ribs, and raspberry beignets. Gluten-free options were plentiful and delicious as well. Thanks to Butter for a great event! -

Food Network Talent. We loved Butter. Sharp staff. Perfectly executed dishes. Excellent environment. The sous-chef even came to our table at the end of service and was intrigued with our experience and curiosity. He asked us to stay and delivered a dessert for us to sample - his treat! What a great 2 hours our team experienced there! Go if you have the chance. -
Review 26 (2023-05-20 - Rating: 4)
Very, very slow service. That can be a good thing sometimes, but theres a limit. Food was ok, my favorites were the raspberry beignets, 5/5 and the coffee espresso martini, which was truly memorable. The berkshire pork chop was a 4/5. Rolls and butter 3/5; Ive enjoyed a sourdough with kerrygold, at home, more. -
Review 27 (2023-12-30 - Rating: 5)
Wow! The food was absolutely INCREDIBLE. I had the duck, easily the best I have ever had. Everything was top notch, the food, the drinks, the service. All of it was 5 stars. We had the opportunity to meet the chef/owner Michael. Very gracious and welcoming. Do yourself a favor and go here. -
Review 28 (2023-12-11 - Rating: 5)
The food was amazing! We loved the rolls, gnocchi Mac and cheese, beef wellington, pork chop, and red snapper! It was worth the wait! -
Review 29 (2024-03-06 - Rating: 5)
I mean what is there to say? This place has been top-rated for years and for good reason. Lovely ambiance, wonderful service and the food is incredible. I recommend all my friends from out of town who are seeing a show to come here for dinner!Dishes to NOT miss: the rolls (get the bigger order thank me later…hell get two!), the yellow tomato cavitappi with lamb rags, and the pork chop (pictured here).Go here. Don’t debate other places just go here. -
Review 30 (2024-12-06 - Rating: 5)
I travelled to NYC from MI specifically to go to Butter, and it was totally worth it! The food and drinks were fabulous as well as the atmosphere. I had the house rolls (the butter for the rolls was divine, the butter at Butter buttered! haha), brussels sprouts salad, beef wellington and the vegan cranberry cobbler. Thank you Franco and team for such a great evening! -
Review 31 (2024-10-25 - Rating: 5)
Fantastic! Excellent meals enjoyed by four of us. We took our server’s suggestions and started with the Burrata and Brussels sprouts. Both were at the highest levels. We followed with her recommendations of the short rib and Branzino. Again, they were great. The short rib had the texture of filet and the hearty taste of braised beef. In addition, the salmon was among the best ever. The two offered breads, Parker House rolls and Foccacia were so tasty they did not even need the wonderful butters and Ricotta. Ask for Olivia, our top-notch server. She made the occasion. Reservations are a must. We needed to make a 7:00 PM curtain, and the kitchen had us out in an hour and a half. Unfortunately, we had to skip what looked like great desserts. -
Review 32 (2024-09-08 - Rating: 5)
Hosted a private event here on the 10th floor and the private space was perfect with outdoor balcony, bar for drinks and space for networking. The servers were great and friendly! Food was delicious! Super generous portions too! -
Review 33 (2022-09-25 - Rating: 4)
I am on the verge between a 4 star and a 5 star. The service was amazing and we enjoyed their recommendations. My favorite dish would have been one we didn’t order which was the cavatappi pasta. We would not get the fish again and I think I would try something other than the Mac and cheese gnocchi. They were very helpful to make sure we got to our show on time and the beignets were amazing! Make sure to get those! -
Review 34 (2018-05-08 - Rating: 5)
The food is the star at Butter. We had drinks and apps at the bar as we waited for our table, then more drinks, more apps and entrees at our table. Everyone was VERY Satisfied with their meals and we all samples each others food. Also, the decor is amazing, quirky and fun. Overall great experience. -
Review 35 (2023-09-07 - Rating: 5)
What an incredible dining experience. The food and service were phenomenal. Everything we ate was well balanced and well seasoned. We cant wait to return. -
Review 36 (2021-07-31 - Rating: 5)
My boyfriend and I dined here on 7/28 and it was a great experience. I had heard great things and am a fan of Alex guarnaschelli. Janeth R was our server and she was very attentive and provided great service. As did the entire staff. We ordered everything off the menu! The Parker house rolls were amazing. We also had the burrata. Moved onto the spicy lamb cavatapi which was my favorite along with the gnocchi mac and cheese which was also delightful. For dinner we had the strip steak and salmon. Desert was the lemon sorbet and dark chocolate creme brule. Everything tasted amazing and was cooked to perfection. Will definitely return next time we are in the city. -
Review 37 (2024-09-06 - Rating: 5)
This is not a “celebrity chef” restaurant, this is just a fantastic restaurant that happens to have Alex Guarnaschelli at its helm. Minimalist menu but everything is perfectly executed. The service was impeccable and the atmosphere is bustling. Would absolutely return again. Great choice! -
Review 38 (2022-12-29 - Rating: 5)
It was so good. Im a huge fan of chef Alex guarnaschelli. The food is amazing, and the portions are abundant. Get the Berkshire Pork Chop. You wont be disappointed. -
Review 39 (2018-08-26 - Rating: 5)
My husband took me here for my birthday dinner and it was a great experience. Im a fan of Alex Guarnaschelli and her food tonight just made me a bigger fan. The service was exceptional and the ambiance set the mood for dinner. The Cherry On Top cocktail was smooth and refreshing, the buns they brought out to start were flaky and buttery deliciousness! I had the halibut and my husband had the pork chop. We also shared a side of kale gratin (I could eat the crust alone everyday) All of the flavors were outstanding and the seasoning was on point. We finished with the raspberry filled beignets and it was a flavor bomb of pure yum! Would highly recommend her restaurant if you are looking for a good spot in the city. -
Review 40 (2018-05-21 - Rating: 4)
Butter is fancy restaurant. We ordered barbeque and mac & cheese.Staff served the bread and butter before the main menu. The taste was really great and the main menu were great too. That restaurant has tasty food and generous servings, but the price is little bit expensive. -
Review 41 (2017-05-03 - Rating: 5)
You know those dinners you go out to once a year or once every few years, that is way above your pay grade but you remember forever? Thats Butter! The food was amazing, the presentation fantastic, I went on a company outing, and was so impressed I brought my girlfriend and mom here before a Broadway show.We went all out and tried several plates, the Tomahawk was immense and every bite melted. The oysters were top notch, and there was thick cut veal bacon, Ive never had something like that, the flavors were explosive.Expect $100 a person, but also be prepared for fantastic food! -
Review 42 (2021-06-27 - Rating: 5)
Due to who owns this place, I had extremely high expectations. Turns out, those expectations were exceeded. The food is here soooo amazing. The flavors on everything mixed so well. The staff was very polite. I plan on making this place a regular for me! -
Review 43 (2024-05-19 - Rating: 5)

Review 44 (2017-04-23 - Rating: 5)
The wait staff was friendly. We arrived early and relaxed in the lounge area with our drinks. My ghost margarita was salty, spiked w chilis, perfect blend. My steak was medium rare. Nice char on the outside. The pork chop was the best entree on the menu. Tobacco smoked. The pie crust was fresh and flaky, w vanilla cream filling, tipped w strawberries. -
Review 45 (2020-03-07 - Rating: 5)
My husband reserved the tasting menu for my birthday tonight and it was an amazing experience! The service, ambiance, and food were all stellar and we look forward to visiting Butter again whenever we are in NYC. THANKS for an amazing birthday celebration! -
Review 46 (2022-01-26 - Rating: 5)
Such a great experience. On a solo trip in NYC for two nights and this was everything I imagine the best of the City to be. Understated entrance (careful you might missed it), unbelievable food, and warm staff. So glad I made the reservation. -
Review 47 (2024-09-26 - Rating: 5)
We went to Butter to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary. A memorable anniversary deserves a memorable meal, and we were not disappointed! The food and service were par excellence! The atmosphere was classic but with a modern twist. I had the smoked double-cut pork chop while my wife had the beef short rib. Both of which were fabulous!! We brought the beignets home for desert later! It was a fabulous anniversary dinner!! -
Review 48 (2018-10-22 - Rating: 5)
I had high expectations walking into the restaurant of a famed Iron Chef, and I was not let down! Although every aspect of this culinary experience was enjoyable, my personal high point was the tobacco smoked double cut pork chop, this bone in beauty was crunchy on the outside, moist on the inside, and tasted more like smoked bacon than a traditional porkchop. The sauced peaches remained firm and added a lightness to the rich meal. To finish, the dairy free, gluten free, oak crunch sundae was amazing due to the level of complexity and flavor it pulled off without containing any allergens. The waitress was knowledgeable, fun and engaging, told stories of the menu, staff, and experience, and her recommendations were spot on! All in all an unbelievable experience worth every penny spent! -

We celebrated my birthday 🥳 at Butter. The food was so delicious 🤤 everything we ate was an experience, so balanced in flavors, texture and taste. Thoughtful menu and decor. The staff are all friendly and welcoming with high attention to detail. We would go back and highly recommend. ICAG thank you for a delicious meal! 🥂 -
Review 50 (2018-09-07 - Rating: 5)
This place was fantastic! I would say the only terrible part was $17 specialty drinks. That is out of control. Anyway, on to the food! The gnocci Mac and cheese is INSANE. So good. We got two orders. The shrimp were delicious as well. We also got the steak (not the $120 one), the cauliflower, and the branzino. The steak and caluflower were just INCREDIBLE. The fish was just alright but not bad. Overall I absolutely loved the meal and would love to return someday! -
Review 51 (2022-05-05 - Rating: 5)
My wife and I had a great time at Butter. The service was excellent, the food sublime. The cavatappi and gnocchi Mac & cheese are entree-sized small plates and were the highlight of our meal. The buns were perfectly toasted and with a light crunch and soft inviting interior. *Try the cauliflower entree* - this was far more delicious than it had any right to be. And of course you need to get the raspberry beignets. Excellent food and pretty reasonably priced for a midtown restaurant of this caliber. -
Review 52 (2018-07-22 - Rating: 5)
A truly delicious meal! Alex Guarnaschellis flair comes through in all of the dishes as well as the cocktail selections. The warm atmosphere lends beautifully to the amazing food. Definitely going back next time we are in NYC. -

Review 55 (2022-03-31 - Rating: 5)
Our meal was delicious. My girlfriend got the Gnocchi Mac and Cheese as her appetizer which was yummy and her White Cloud Cauliflower was awesome. She loved the marash pepper. I had the Creekstone Farms New York Strip medium that was cooked to perfection. Thick, juicy and tasty. Grilled Broccoli was great. I only ate the florets and could have had less stalk for me. For dessert, I had the Pumpkin Spice Almond Milk Sundae. It was out of this world. I couldnt stop eating the crumble that there was a lot of it, and the homemade ice cream, I cant even describe because it was so deliciously different. You have to get it to find out. But, its seasonal so you have get there soon. The service was top-notch. Waiter was knowledgeable and personable. Plates were removed and was water topped off timely. My girlfriend, who is a foodie, enjoyed seeing Alex in the dining room. I should call it #Starstruck. -

We’ve been trying to get into Butter for a while. It did not disappoint! We started with the burrata and tomatoes…DELICIOUS! I had the short rib with a side of potatoes, my wife had the chicken with broccoli. Everything was amazing! -

Fantastic place. Definitely on the higher end of things, but as a splurge or work mean it’s worth it. Also makes a good date location if you want a cozy atmosphere without being cramped. Also, watermelon ice cubes? Where have you been all my life. Oddly enough, they don’t have much with butter despite the name (we know because someone in our party kept asking). -

This was my second time here and I enjoyed it both times. There is a warm and pleasant atmosphere. The staff is very nice and helpful. As for the food and drinks - I liked it very much.My buddy and I stopped in to enjoy some wine, appetizers and Port. I have to say the two appetizers that we chose were excellent! The Thick Cut Veal Bacon with a Red Wine Mustard was perfect.....really, really delicious and rich with flavor! The Grilled Broccolini, Toasted Seasame was also very tasty and cooked just right! It is a pretty expensive place to dine, but at least it delivers the goods! Ill be back again at some point. -

Review 60 (2024-06-01 - Rating: 4)
Service and atmosphere was amazing. The food I feel could have been better. I feel it was overpriced for what you get. I got a medium rare ribeye and it came out medium well. I feel the sauce on the steak was overwhelming. The rolls with butter were good although I wish there were more butter options for a restaurant named “Butter.” -
Review 61 (2020-02-09 - Rating: 5)
(Dined in November 2015 and July 2019)In all honesty, this is my wife and I’s favourite restaurant. We came to celebrate our engagement in November 2015 and when we were back in New York in July 2019 we had to come back. Both experiences were perfect. The staff are friendly, attentive, polite but you also feel you can have a conversation with them. The food however, is the real draw, the steak is amazing and complimented beautifully by the sides. We found 1 per person to share was ample. There is also a good selection of wines and cocktails. -
Review 62 (2022-11-03 - Rating: 5)
The cauliflower dish was the best we’ve ever had - would eat cauliflower every day if it was prepared this way! Great atmosphere and environment in this restaurant as well. -
Review 63 (2024-03-17 - Rating: 5)
What a great experience! I was surprised that we got a table as a walk-in. Must have gone at exactly the right time because they got pretty busy not long after we were seated. Drinks were good, and, go figure, the bread and butter was delicious. I had the cauliflower and my friend had steak and we both loved our food. Raspberry beignets were also delicious. Staff was amazing, too. Very attentive, friendly, and had good recommendations. I would definitely go back. -

Love Butter - first question by server was if we were on the way to a show ( we were) and although we did NOT feel rushed, everything served in a timely manner. We even had time for a bottle of champagne! The food is so good and service perfect! Will be back ! -
Review 65 (2022-08-31 - Rating: 5)
You will not be disappointed. The gnocchi Mac and cheese was to die for!! The gnocchi were so tender. My salmon was perfect, cooked just right, very balanced, the sweetness of the corn with the lemon on the salmon balanced perfectly without overpowering the fish. -

Review 69 (2019-03-16 - Rating: 4)
Very expensive, not really the place to go if youre travelling on a budget and while the food is presented well and tastes pretty good, its hard to say the chicken was worth 37 dollars. We were placed on wonky table, which staff did their best to correct with what they had but still wasnt ideal. The inclusion of a 20 per cent tip also seems a little gratuitous. The service was fine but it wasnt over the top good. Just basics youd expect anywhere to be honest. All in all, good food - certainly better than your average restaurant, but still overpriced.Four stars is for the taste of the food and the overall presentation of the restaurant, misses five cause its still a bit expensive. -

The food was wonderful! I was especially surprised by the freshly made pasta (in particular, the squid ink pasta). Our waiter was incredibly funny, had great insights to what food we might enjoy, as well as wine. Overall, great experience, however, the price point is a bit high for how casual the place is. But if you’re looking for good food rather than style, this is a good place to go. -

Had a great first visit to Butter Midtown on a Thursday night. Our server asked about time constraints and since we had a show that night I really appreciated that! Our food was excellent. We shared the kale salad and Parkerhouse rolls. Entrees were the beef short rib and branzino. Both were excellent. I realized the next day that I had left my credit card behind and I called the restaurant, Jennifer was incredibly helpful and called me back when it had been found. Thank you for the care! -

Decent spot with nice decor. I was expecting a bit more elevated so wasnt overly impressed but it was good. There were vegan options though no bread or dessert that was vegan. The drinks are lovely and the staff is attentive. It was very noisy and the acoustics arent great. The lighting is beautiful. Weird decor choices around the place - old 90s ceramic hens and pieces of logs.... like at a grandmas house but mixed in among really gorgeous light fixtures and ceiling installations. -
Review 92 (2024-03-28 - Rating: 4)
Lovely place with very friendly waiters. The food was so delicious. The only reason I gave four stars overall was because of the limited vegetarian options. But the food we had was so good. I would highly recommend the Brussels sprouts and the mac & cheese. And the fresh butter was so soft and fresh. -

My husband and I visited Butter in October while in town celebrating our anniversary and catching John Mayer at MSG. We love Food Network and Alex Guarnaschelli, so getting a reservation at her restaurant was a dream. When I tell you this is the best meal we’ve ever had … everything from the stellar service, the ambiance, the food. I drool just remembering it. Highly recommend the Parkerhouse rolls, the gnocchi Mac and cheese, and the raspberry beignets. I had the steak with chimichurri which was quite possibly the best cooked steak I’ve ever had and the chimichurri was so fresh and vibrant, I could’ve eaten it by itself. My husband had the beef Wellington and it was so perfectly cooked and presented it was almost too pretty to eat. Also can we talk about the delicious and fun potato stacks?!This was such a great meal and experience and we recommend coming to Butter if you love good food! -

I highly recommend this restaurant. We went for a friends Birthday celebrations. The atmosphere, food and the service was all 5 stars worth. The short ribs, broccoli rabe and Prawns were very flavorful and I highly recommend these dishes. Ribs are a little on the heavy side. Branzino was not bad but I think you should try other items on the menu.We had the manager take our order and her recommendations for each course appetizer, main course , drink and dessert were perfect and we are glad we ordered everything she said . We ordered their Mezcal based cocktail which was really good. -

This was an experience of a lifetime!! I am a huge of Chef Alex, but now Im fully in love with her! Dining at Butter has been on my foodie list for a while, and I was super excited I could get reservations while I was in town on business. When you arrive the atmosphere is very upbeat, relaxed and very welcoming. The decor is sexy sleek and fabulous! I see some many hints of Alex around. My amazing waitress was Jackie, and when I say she is literally the best waitress I have ever had. I felt like I was talking to a friend. She made great suggestions. She literally has the best personality and exudes what a waitress should be. She was on point but not annoying. My drink was the smokey dragon, and it was beautiful and absolutely amazing. Starters were the Parkerhouse rolls, literally best rolls in the world. I wanted more, but I had a lot of food to try. The house made butters wow!! I strongly suggest the Cavatappai pasta, the lamb sausage, and that sauce!! Its literally so good! My friend had the Gnocchi mac and cheese, and when I say they taste like cheesy clouds in your mouth. The pasta was so fresh and light. My main was the Branzino. The skin was perfectly crisp, but the fish was light, flaky, and seasoned to perfection! I had my fan girl moment when Chef Michael was out in the dining area. Jackie noticed my reaction and had the come say hi. He was the nicest guy so friendly and took time out to chat with us, and I got to be in awe of an amazing and talented chef. I got the total VIP treatment from the entire staff. Last but not least, dessert. These desserts were some of the best bites in my life. The Beignets, I see why they are the signature item. Wow! Its not your typical southern beignet, but I dont mind that. Overall, my experience exceeded my expectations and made this one of the most memorable dinners in my life. Checking this item of my food bucket list was magical. I highly recommend Butter again and again -
Review 103 (2023-01-28 - Rating: 5)
The food was amazing and the aesthetic really cool. The service was very attentive, but the waitress really didnt have the command dof the menu I would have expected (lacking descriptions, failed to mention items were sold out, etc.). It is a traditional three course menu, so if youre looking for something a bit more luxurios like a tasting menu, amuse-bouche, or wine pairing, then Id go elsewhere. Clearly from the rating we had a wonderful experience, and for what it is it is impressive, but it wasnt what I was expecting. -

This place is a must do. The environment, service and the food are on point. You do need to make reservations ahead of time and the reservations start a month out, which we did. The host was very accommodating in switching time when we asked to pull in the dinner time. The food is absolutely great. The rolls are a must do when ordering and we did the major entrees (chicken, steak, pork chop, and braised short ribs). All were excellent. Easy to find if you’re in the times square area. A much needed stop after a full day of being a tourist. -

I’ve been here many times since I live so close. I love this place. Food is great, people working the restaurant are great, and very good bartenders. Though ironically the worst part of the staff is the general manager, he is a complete piece of garbage. Restaurant would be perfect if I didn’t have to see his face. Though I could be wrong, he acts like he owns the place, he should realize that he doesn’t, he’s just a manager. -

Great experience at Butter. Staff was very attentive and informative. Flavor combinations of the salmon crudo were spot on! Short ribs, cocktails and Parker house rolls were also good. Porkchop was huge and leftovers will be lunch one day next week. Service was a little slow towards the end and wouldn’t have been a big deal hadn’t we had the ballet to get too. Wish we had time for the beignets. -

I came here with a friend for dinner. The restaurant was beautifully decorated. The service impeccable. The food outstanding. The price? Outrageous. Our waiter was polite and very friendly. We were well taken care of during dinner. I love the butter, they bought out with the bread. I gotten the salmon and my friend got the strip steak. Both were cooked to perfection. We got the specials for desserts and they were mouth watering delicious. Be sure to ask the prices of the specials. They had a steak special with a truffle element and it was $98! Would definitely visit again, but next time maybe during Restaurant Week or maybe for a special occasion. -

Celebrated my birthday here and it was a great experience. Our waitress really made it special. I initially booked the restaurant because i was looking forward to the slow braised beef short rib with polenta but they took it off the menu for some strange reason. Its a crowd fave it just didnt make any sense why they took it off. The menu on open table (where i made the reservation) needs to be updated. The Parker house rolls were incredible and we kept ordering more to the table. The Raspberry beignets were also amazing. -

While frequently visit restaurants in the area not sure how this place never came up. Everything and I just mean everything was amazing. The staff and service, as well as atmosphere of the place. Food has to be described separately and could probably write about each and every dish that tried and that goes from snacks as they call them through the entire dinner and including desert. Every dish was just perfect and amazing. Would most definitely go back and many more times -

The not so good: The scattered acres farms chicken didnt wow, nothing special. Ive had diner chicken which was just as good. The bread was fine, the butter was neat but also not special at this price point. The fries side item was also nothing special. The good:The burrata was a great combo of tastes, that was good. The boneless ribs was exactly what we were expecting as far as a 50 dollar plate - quite tender, quite tasty!the service was a bit TOO attentive, felt like we were being watched lol. I just real quick wiped some crumbs off and the gentlemen was almost offended Sir, I got that!Dropping 220 for a party of 2 with no dessert, I left disappointed. -

A truly wonderful place all around!! We’d been wanting to visit Butter for years (also, we’re big Alex Guarnaschelli fans)… We finally had the opportunity to visit this past Saturday - and boy oh boy, Butter did NOT disappoint!First and foremost, I really cannot say enough about the entire staff here - SUPER friendly, warm, inviting, and happy. Our server, Jazmin, was especially attentive and so sweet, with an infectious smile. But again, the entire staff was so attentive and wonderful. The Food: Oh my God. Started off with the Parkerhouse Rolls - these are probably the best dinner rolls you’ll ever put in your mouth… glistening with a brush of butter and sprinkle of flaky salt - they come with two different butters, both of which were truly lovely. The Sockeye Salmon Tartare was my “starter” - the balance of this dish was incredible… creamy and crunchy, acidic and just plain delicious and fresh. The Little Gem salad was simply perfect in only a way that CRISP fresh ingredients can offer. We had a little pasta course after that which included the Gnocchi “mac & cheese” and the Cavatappi. The gnocchi were so delicate and pillowy, they just melt in your mouth - and the cheese was silky and complex with a lovely crumb topping. The Cavatappi was also amazing - the sauce rivals anything that this Italian could come up with, which I hate to admit. Perfectly seasoned with just the right amount of heat and bite from the lamb sausage. We also shared an order of the Thick Cut Veal Bacon… WOW! Don’t let the color of that mustard sauce deter you - it’s a must-have! Melt in your mouth tender and delicious. We loved it here and will be back as quickly as possible! -
Review 126 (2021-11-03 - Rating: 4)
Honestly, I thought the food was only okay. Steak with a side of red pepper sauce…um, okay. Big chunk of roasted cauliflower….sure. Sautéed salmon and greens, yeah, that’s nice. But is there anything on the menu that’s so good you could never make it yourself, at home? I don’t think so. Butter feels like a nice place riding on a lot of hype. I’m not into that kind of dining. On the other hand, interior of the restaurant is very pleasant and the wine list was superb. Oh—and the knife skills of the person who cut our steak to share —-were amazing. I’ve never seen such even slices of steak! In short, we had a great time because we were with friends. But—-if they wanted to go back, I’d pass. I like my friends a lot—but not enough to return to Butter. -

Had a girls trip to NY recently and decided to spend our last evening at Butter. It was amazing! The atmosphere, the lighting, and the restaurant were on point. The food was amazing! We started off with Parker house rolls and the Little Gem Lettuce salad. Very light and fresh. Moved onto the main course and had the Atlantic Salmon and Beef Wellington, with a side of smashed potatoes and broccolini. We paired it with a nice bottle of Pinot Noir. It was delicious. Can’t wait to be back! Only reason for 4 stars is because the manager asked us to close out and move to the bar since we wanted to have an after dinner drink. He actually told us that we had 10 minutes to finish up. We had only been there less than 2 hours so it’s not like we were there all night and the restaurant wasn’t on a wait. Either way, we closed out and moved to the bar. Still a nice evening; he just put a damper on it. -

And service as a whole was on cue. -

Every bite of the tobacco smoked pork chop was incredible, as were the charred sweet potatoes. My family members had the ny strip and the salmon which were delicious too, but they all agreed that the pork chop had the best flavor and was perfectly cooked. One of the highlights of my trip was the apple dessert. Have you seen the picture of it? It was beautiful! Almost too pretty to eat, but...oh my... it was amazing! I will probably only get one in my lifetime and I am so happy I ordered it. -

Happiness is the Bucket List event that lives up to my unreasonable expectations.Last week, we went to Butter, Chef Alex Guarnaschelli’s restaurant in midtown Manhattan.Poor Chef. She is my absolute favorite Food Network chef/judge, and I have long dreamt of eating her food. Finally, Tuesday, 30 April 2024, was The Day. And, to complicate matters, we had Carnegie Hall tickets and traffic was as traffic is in Manhattan, namely horrible. So, one might say I didn’t make it easy for Chef and her staff.Stepping into Butter was a delightful surprise. A short elevator ride transported us to the dining room, while a private room on the 10th floor added an intriguing element to the restaurants layout. I couldnt help but wonder about the dynamics it created for the wait staff. The dining room is large, with booths circling a capacious bar. The place is wood-lined but suffused with a warm glow that is not at all men’s-den-like. I liked the mildly broody wall art (my wife disagrees with me).We started off with Parker House rolls, with flaky salt and house-made compound butters. I mean, we had to, right? ‘Cuz, Butter. For apps, B opted for the gnocchi mac-n-cheese. My app was the charred octopus with tahini and white beans. Oh, my dear Gd, I was in heaven. From a teensy-tasting bite of the white beans/tahini came such enormous flavor. How did she do that? Octopus is notoriously difficult to get right and easy to get gummy and unappealing. My goodness did this dish G E T I T R I G H T. Wow. B’s review of the mac-n-cheese: gnocchi done to toothsome turn, with delicious topping, and almost too rich to finish. But to die for.For mains, B went pork chop, and I went fish. The double-cut pork chop was mildly smoky, and tender and juicy throughout. Some serious cooking chops are needed (see what I did there?) to cook a chop, at least three inches thick, to be juicy in the middle. We are still marveling at the feat. And those apples, cooked to look like potatoes? Whimsical, delicious, and a perfect accompaniment. My fish—pan-seared branzino—was quite simply the best fish I have ever eaten. The skin, the crispy, crispy skin, just gobsmacked me. And the flesh, tender and meltingly sweet. For her dessert, B ordered a scoop of chocolate ice cream. I think she thought she’d be getting your basic, maybe even store-bought, chocolate ice cream. Nope, that is not what landed on the table. Don’t think it was dark chocolate; perhaps Belgian? Delish. As for me, I treated my happy inner child with the dark chocolate pudding and floated on a cloud of chocolate bliss through the stinking traffic to Carnegie Hall.A special shout out to our server, Jasmine, who timed our meal perfectly for our concert tickets and was an intelligent and friendly guide to the menu. -

Delicious. We went for restaurant week and were not disappointed. The food was delicious and novel (rye toast and lox as ravioli? Yes please!). I would definitely order my entree, the bass, again, and Id be curious to try the other apps and entrees. Drinks were a little pricey but on par with the rest of midtown, and very good. -

Second visit not as good as the first. Food didn’t have the same presentation or wow factor. Gnocchi Mac n cheese and thick cut veal bacon…two dishes you must experience their deliciousness!! -

Since I first visited the place in 2012. I always come back. The beignets are a must!!! The steak we shared, the home made beef bacon! I would order without the sauce on top. The lobster grits are toooo good. Chef Alex passes by when her time allows and see how you enjoy the food and service. -

I will give some insight as we go. So, the place is gorgeous. The mural of the forest is beautiful. The food is good. I had roasted peppers, shrimp, gnoche Mac and cheese, some potato side dish with green stuff. The green stuff and shrimp was my favorite. The waiters are gorgeous and friendly and wonderful. I very much liked the staff. Just a wonderful staff. I would recommend it based on that :). The food is a side benefit... And delicious. -

We thought this place was great! The food was good, we had some young kids with us, and they were super kid friendly. Loved the ambience. Lots of room and you did not feel packed in. Service was decent. -

We had a delicious meal at Butter. Food and drinks were simple but delicious. It is a bit pricey, but I felt that the service and food were worth it. There is a weird non-functioning bar at the entrance where we sat to wait for our reservation. The true bar is around the corner, and cannot be seen from the lobby. We will definitely return for another meal. -

Absolutely the best food Ive ever had, anywhere. I have been dying to go here for years and was surprised with reservations for my birthday. The restaurant is gorgeous, the staff was attentive and professional, the menu had the perfect selections. We were a party of 4 and had a grand time sharing small plates and trying each others entrées. I will be thinking about the rolls and butter for a long time! -

Absolutely phenomenal meal and atmosphere. Jackie was the most attentive server and ensured my gluten-free requests were fulfilled. Thank you for a safe and fabulous time!! -

Where to start? This restaurant exceeded all my expectations. I’m telling you, the moment you walk in, the ambiance tells a story as to what you’re about to encounter. It was difficult to choose from the menu because everything sounded like a delicacy. We are huge fans of the executive chef and are very aware of her cooking style/recipe guide so no doubt it would be fantastic. We ordered the bread to start. Those rolls were so deliciously buttery it was like heaven in an appetizer. For the entree we ordered the NY strip steak (medium), Salmon and the Gnocchi Mac and cheese. Oh my goodness, THIS was something to write home about. I’ve been to many restaurants that specialize in just fish and specialize in just steak and have not been able to incorporate flavor and proper sear without overcooking!Truly would recommend this spot to any and everyone who is looking for a true culinary experience to make a reservation at Butter. The wait staff was also impeccable, they gave great suggestions, they were timely, polite and extremely welcoming!Overall 10/10 experience. This may become a regular spot for us. The only thing that could have made it better was a visit from Chef Alex 😉 but maybe next time. -

From the service to the food, we were impressed. We especially loved the duck and porkchop which were both executed so well. We will definitely come back. They also have the best dinner rolls. -

Update: pushed it up to 4 stars after our visit. Service was very attentive and quick. Ordered a decent amount of stuff and enjoyed it. Our favorite was the Cavatappi pasta and rolls. At the end of the meal we were told theyd cover one of our desserts for the reservation issue which is appreciated.Set a reservation for a Tuesday on Open Table because thats what the website has to use. Get a call 6 days later saying my reservation cannot be made because they are closed for a private event. Barely an apology just an oops sorry our bad want to come another day? Sure dont worry we wont come on my GFs birthday and sure Ill just cancel my hotel reservation because we wanted to stay the night. Dont worry its not like this could have been a big planned event for anyone. Why the hell would that date even be open unless you booked the event after I set my reservation? I see that event is more important than everyday regular customers. I honestly would never even attempt to go anymore but my GF has been excited about several menu items and has had her heart set on going for months so we will have to go another day. I see the customer service is awful so far, didnt even care to make up for the mistake, so my expectations are pretty low. -

Warm ambiance, easy to make online reservations, and they very kindly allowed us to store our suitcases in their coat room during dinner. Most of all, the food was phenomenal, rich but not too heavy, flavorful. I really enjoyed the chive butter with the cornbread, the gnocchi mac and cheese, and the white cloud cauliflower entree. Dessert was phenomenal..it was the ganache, caramel, and shortbread one (Millionaire Shortbread).
